The island’s mothers stitching their hearts into every embroidery

Every Saturday, Awashima mothers gather to embroider island souvenirs and sell them at the Awashima Artists' Village, an art facility housed in the former Awashima Junior High School building. The one-of-a-kind souvenirs, embroidered sakosh, are carefully crafted stitch by stitch under the lighthearted banter of the artists. The proceeds from the sales go toward the upkeep of the artists' village, Awashima every year artists from Japan and abroad spend several months creating special artwork with the islanders. The artist village is located in the Setouchi area of the island. The Artists' Village is open every Saturday, even outside the Setouchi Triennale period, where you can meet the mothers.
