"A Shrine Where a Wooden Propeller is Reverently Dedicated

As you walk up a gentle slope in the village of Teshima, you will see a stone torii gate quietly standing guard over the houses on the island. Behind the torii gate is the approach to Hachiman Shrine, surrounded by trees. 120 stone steps lead up to the shrine, one by one, and as you step up, you gradually feel as if you are entering a world of the extraordinary. On the ceiling of the building at the top of the stone steps is a wooden airplane propeller. The propeller, which is longer and larger than an adult with arms outstretched, was dedicated by a man who was engaged in the manufacture of airplanes for the Navy before the war.
