Megijima
Island Time Spot

Stroll the white beach as ships drift by

Although the beach is crowded with bathers in summer, it is a popular spot outside of the bathing season as well, as it offers a refreshing view of the ocean. A stone-paved promenade is laid out along the white, arc-shaped sandy beach, where visitors can take a stroll or sit on the stone steps and enjoy a relaxing time. Ferries and fishing boats sail to the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, sea birds rest on the breakwater as if waving them off, and the bustling city of Takamatsu can be seen beyond the sea. Although it is only a 20-minute ferry ride from Takamatsu, you feel as if you are in a different world. In front of you is Yashima Island. Unlike the beautiful trapezoidal shape seen in tourist brochures, the summit of the island looks like the back of a creature with a large undulating peak. Some people say they fell in love with Yashima at first sight because it looks like a scene from a famous story. If you want to know what kind of scene from what story, please check out Islander Interviews – Ideal for Your Trip Home.
