Tall, sturdy stone walls guarding the village from harsh winds

Standing in front of people getting off the boat like a fortress is a stone wall called "ote. They were built to protect homes and livelihoods from strong winds. The stone walls are so high that they even hide the roofs of the houses, and they stand in a row along the sea. You may think, "Strong winds in the calm Seto Inland Sea?" You may think, "Strong winds on the calm Seto Megijima Sea? Once you enter the village from Ote, you will find yourself in a maze of narrow streets. It may be fun to stroll through the village without looking at a map and getting lost.
