Shodoshima 88 Temple Pilgrimage are said to be where Kobo-Daishi Kukai stopped by on his way from his hometown in Kagawa Prefecture to Kyoto to practice asceticism. Shodoshima 88 Temple Pilgrimage are called "mountain sacred sites" because of their steep paths through mountains, caves, and other natural landforms. After climbing steep slopes and stairs, you will come to a hall built on a rock wall, and when you look back, you will see the village and the Seto Inland Sea spread out below. The tranquil air that fills the temple grounds simply overwhelms you with the spectacular view.
