Rich spring waters that nourish the terraced paddies

The Nakayama Senmaida rice terraces are also known for the traditional summer event "Mushifuri (sending off insects). The terraced rice paddies, which were created between the Nanbokucho Period and the Edo Period, are steeply sloped and the paths are narrow, making it impossible to use large agricultural machinery. Spring water from Mt. Yufune is indispensable for rice cultivation in Senmaida, and the abundant spring water, which can supply 300 tons of rice per day, has never dried up, supporting the production of delicious rice. When a large amount of water flows down a steeply sloped channel with great force, a loud "thud thud thud" can be heard. When talking with people in neighboring rice paddies, they speak loudly so as not to be drowned out by the sound of the water, and people in the Nakayama area are said to be very vocal.
