Island Time Spot
A peaceful reading moment embraced by nature
This hexagonal building is located near the bus stop "Shimizu-mae". Upon entering, one finds many wooden boxes filled with books of various genres stacked on top of each other. The building was originally built by the Teshima Rice Terrace Club, which farms the terraced rice paddies in front of the building, as a rest area for farmers to use in between farming. One of the Teshima Tanada Club members donated a collection of books, and in 2017, the "My Book Box Project" was launched, in which entire book boxes are lent out to private residences and other groups on the island. The place is like an unmanned library, and anyone can borrow any book they like by filling out a notebook set up there, including not only island residents but also people returning home for summer vacation and tourists staying on the island for consecutive nights. You can take the book to your favorite place on the island and read it, or you can read it inside Shimizu Rokkakuan. Enjoy a reading experience that you cannot have in the city, where the lush scenery will soothe you when you look up in between readings. Please note that the building is closed when the Tanada Club is not working.
