Why the "Sunset Guy" has been shooting only Naoshima sunsets for 10 years Islander Interviews – Ideal for Your Trip Home
Naoshima is known as a sacred place for contemporary art, but there is one islander who is affectionately known as "Sunset Man": Hajime Tateishi, born and raised in Naoshima. He is a "famous guide" who has been interacting with domestic and foreign tourists and artists, and has been observing the art activities in Naoshima since the early days. Tateishi's life's work has been photographing the sunsets of Naoshima. Almost every sunny day in the evening, Tateishi goes out with his camera and has been taking pictures of the sunset for 10 years. He is so good at it that his work has been exhibited at Miyanoura Gallery 6, an art facility on the island. In fact, Tateishi's pursuit of Naoshima sunsets was inspired by an art activity in Naoshima. We asked Tateishi about his favorite sunset spots and his passion for photography. To see Tateishi's sunset photos, please visit the Art Gallery.

An island of art, the basis of which is the connection between people.
Tateishi's life's work has been photographing sunsets in Naoshima. Almost every sunny day, he goes out with his camera in the evening and has been photographing the sunset for 10 years.
The place where the sun sets moves a little bit every day, and it looks completely different depending on the season and weather. The scenery also changes when there are clouds. It's different every day, so I never get tired of taking pictures of it."
Tateishi's sunset photos are sometimes exhibited at galleries on the island. He started taking sunset photos at the Naoshima Standard.
The best sunset spot in Naoshima is in front of the Chichu Art Museum, especially in winter when the air is clear and beautiful. Especially in winter, the air is clear and beautiful. You can see Otsuchi Island and the Seto-Ohashi Bridge across the ocean, and the collaboration with the sunset is amazing. I would like to encourage tourists to stay on the island and watch the sunset.
